Innovative Panel to Take Place During 4th Annual Internet Week

May 27, 2011 – Senior New York City officials will discuss the role of government and technology during a free breakfast panel as part of Internet Week New York. In 2008, the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) co-founded Internet Week with the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. The discussion – Setting the Digital Standard: Open Government in NYC – will take place on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at 8am at Time Warner Corporate Headquarters in Manhattan. On May 16, the Mayor and MOME unveiled the Road Map for the Digital City, which outlined the Mayor’s goal of making NYC the nation’s leading digital city and expanding its use of Facebook, foursquare, Tumblr, Twitter and 311Online to directly interact with residents. During the panel, City officials will speak about how the City is using innovations in digital communications to connect with New Yorkers more efficiently and discuss the Road Map for the Digital City. Questions for the panel can be tweeted to @NYCMome using the hashtag #IWNY.

At the breakfast panel, Deputy Mayor for Operations Stephen Goldsmith will deliver opening remarks; Jessi Hempel, Senior Writer, FORTUNE, will serve as moderator. A Q&A will follow. Panelists for Setting the Digital Standard: Open Government in NYC will include:

● Seth Pinsky – President, New York City Economic Development Corporation

● Carole Post – Commissioner, Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications

● Rachel Sterne – Chief Digital Officer, Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment

● Adam Sharp – Manager, Government and Political Partnerships, Twitter

Due to space limitations, advance registration is required. RSVP to rsvp@media.nyc.gov by Tuesday, June 7. Seating is available on a first come, first serve basis. Doors open at 8am when light refreshments will be served. The discussion will run from 8:30am-9:30am. Time Warner Corporate Headquarters are located on 58th Street between 8th & 9th Avenues.
