PRAXIS IS SEEKING A WRITER/DIGITAL ORGANIZER

 

The Praxis Project is a nonprofit movement support intermediary and an institution of color that supports organizing and change work at local, regional and national levels.  Focused on movement building for fundamental change, our mission is to build healthy communities by changing the power relationships between people of color and the institutional structures that affect their lives.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Digital Organizer works with the Communications and Technology Team to develop web content, content plans and social media communications for Praxis initiatives.  The Digital Organizer must share Praxis’ overall commitment to social justice.  This position reports to the Communications Director.

 

Online research, content development and website updates.  Conduct daily web searches for relevant news and blog pieces for website updates, social media and to share with Praxis staff and networks; develop content, edit updates for distribution and work with Communications Director to ensure proper format and distribution.  Work with Communications Director to develop content plan for web properties.

 

Work with staff to build Praxis technology capacity.  Attend conferences, workshops, seminars, and classes to maintain knowledge of changing technologies and developments in the field and work with staff to build staff social media knowledge and capacity.

 

Manage social media and online lists.  In collaboration with Program Team, develop social media plan to support and identify online video, articles and other content for Praxis’ social media venues. Work under the supervision of the Communications Director to manage Twitter, Facebook and other social media content in ways that build online constituencies.  Ensure youth content and design is updated and appealing to “hip hop oriented” youth.  Make periodic assessments and updates of contacts/lists.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

§  Experience and ease working with diverse groups and ability to deal tactfully with the public.

 

§  Commitment to addressing systemic causes of racism, sexism, homophobia and poverty.

 

§  Familiarity with social media sites, online tools and other aspects of information technologies/

 

§  Proficiency with organizing and advocacy principles especially e-advocacy principles as well as facility with online search tools and research practices.

 

§  Proven track record of effectively managing social media properties and building online audiences along with using metrics instruments to track growth in online campaigns

 

§  Ability to write and edit clear and compelling text for public consumption.

 

§  Strong degree of proficiency with a variety of web content management systems and online “customer “ relations and management design including CSS, design and style sheets and other online editing tools; level of comfort in using open source technology platforms.

 

§  An understanding of content ownership and production of media for the web and the politics involved behind retaining said ownership.

 

§  Commitment to using accurate and diverse sources for content for posting on our different web properties.

 

§  Ability to work independently, be detailed oriented, prioritize own work, and collaborate with others in a harmonious and empowering manner.

 

§  Ability to write and speak effectively in English and Spanish a plus
